You only have to hit the space bar once after a period.
YES - ONCE.
There are countless resources on this now - here are a couple that you can use to reference. Please let people know - as lead writer at several advertising agencies, it's been my job to go into text documents and remove all the extra spaces before a copy deck is handed off to the design team.

Stan may need a lot of work on his short game, but he knows to only tap the space bar once after a period. Way to go, Stan!

So they say. But I prefer two.
I prefer two also, but I am training myself on hitting that stupid ass bar just once. After years of typing letters and the like for a living, the habit is proving harder to break than I expected.
I formally logged your preferences for submission to the powers that be, but was unable to identify the proper legislative and enforcement authorities who debate and police these types of rules (pardon the pun). As a result, I'm sorry to report that your preferences will likely go without consideration.
Despair not, however, for there are legions of double-spacers still out there...their mighty fingers marching unaware across keyboards around the globe. Tapping twice. Tapping twice. Tapping twice. Tapping twice.
And no one ever really notices except me.
I notice. I'm a big one-space fan who shares your annoyance!
YES! The people have a pulse. I knew someone was reading this stuff. And for publicly agreeing with me, you have just won a brand new car!
(It's in the mail)
Two words: one space
When you learn to type in typing class in the late 60's, it's a habit that you can never break.(double space, double space).
Didn't you mention there are people out there making a living correcting our bad typos?
Luv ya Ter.
Glad you're back. (double space)

This is just a reminder that you only have to hit the submit button once after leaving a comment. Hitting it twice was an old practice that was taught back in the 60's. These days you only need to submit once.
;)
I'm laughing so hard, I'm actually peeing my pants. You got it. God Bless You, Terry.
